Today on the blog we have a special update from Rodney, a customer of ours. In 2016, Rodney decided to simplify his life and live full time in his Caretta teardrop Camper.

This is his second blog post, having reached the milestone of over 1000 nights and 40,000km in his Caretta teardrop camper.

My name is Rodney. I am from Melbourne, 53 years young and lived in the big smoke all of my life until 2016 following a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and taking early retirement to focus on my life’s journey. I slowed down and now live for every day. I began my journey on the Mornington Peninsula, heading across to Mallacoota.

My original travelling companion, my best friend, Godfrey the British Bulldog, sadly lost his life in an accident since my last blog but undeterred, I have a new companion, Bartholomew.

Companion Pug

The longer I live off grid, the more I enjoy the Australian Bush! I'm loving life and glad to be out of the city!

So how has my Caretta teardrop withstood the test of time?

  • I'm still using the original mattresses, I remove them regularly for rotation and to air them out during the colder months of the year.
  • The original battery is still going strong.
  • I modified the kitchen doors, to sliding instead of lifting. I notice this is standard feature now anyway.
  • I have also repainted the interior cupboard surfaces recently.

So here's to the next 1000 days!
